HP PAVILION DV7T NOTEBOOK MARKET PRICE:32,800/-

In addition to the super-skinny Voodoo Envy laptop and the high end Voodoo Omen desktop, HP has unveiled four consumer notebook series at its Berlin press event.

The HP Pavilion dv4, dv5 and dv7 notebook series get a “sleek, liquid-metallic Mesh Imprint” finish, “magical chrome” touch controls that appear at the touch of a finger, and one-click access to media.

In addition, the HP is claiming that the Pavilion dv4 is the first consumer notebook to include embedded WWAN (3G/UMTS/HSDPA) technology.

With the latest AMD and Intel processors and high-speed eSATA interface for backup to external storage drives the series also introduces built-in HP ProtectSmart hard drive drop/shock protection technology, previously only available in HP business-class notebooks.

The HP Pavilion dv4 is an entertainment offering with a 14.1-inch display from 799 euros, the dv5 is a 15.4-incher at start price of 699 euros while the dv7 gives you 17-inches for 799 euros and up.

Options across the series include TV tuners, Blu-ray optical drives and NVIDIA or ATI graphics.

Also launched is the Compaq Presario CQ50 series, from 399 euros, designed for those on the go, the CQ50 features a 15.4-inch display, new industrial design and HP Imprint surface finish, along with a range of optical drives, built-in wireless technologies, audio, webcam and analog microphone capabilities.

HP also announced accessories including the new HP xb4 Notebook Media Docking Station and mice and carrying cases that match the newly-designed notebooks, in addition to power adapters, extra capacity batteries, and external webcams.

HP Pavilion dv7 laptop series- Price,Specs,Review

The new HP Pavillion dv7 laptop has the following features:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • 17.4″ display
  • 4GB Memory
  • 320GB HDD with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
  • Discrete NVIDIA graphics card
  • DVD writer\Blu-ray combo drive
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Windows Vista OS
  • Integrated TV tuner card
  • Wi-Fi

The Envy may have stolen the show at HP’s Connecting Your World event in Berlin, but Voodoo’s MacBook Air killer wasn’t the only laptop unveiled. Three new notebook models in HP’s Pavilion series were also revealed, among others. These metallic, industrial-looking powerhouses certainly look good and, from what we can see from the specs, have some substance to them as well.

The HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment Notebook PC sports a 14.1-inch display, and all the other features we’ve grown to expect from the Pavilion series: bright screens, media control panels, comfy trackpads, TV tuner and Blu ray options. Configurations will be available later this month with Intel CPU options (dv4t), with a starting price of $999. Those looking for a cheaper AMD-processor-supporting model (dv4z) will have to wait until September (which will have a starting price-point of $799).

The HP Pavilion dv5 Entertainment Notebook PC makes the screen larger, bringing it up to 15.4-inches, and also offers a dedicated GPU from nVidia. As with the dv4, HP will offer plenty of processor options with the unit once it ships later this month. Configurations start at $899 for the Intel model (dv5t) and $699 for the AMD version (dv5z).

The desktop replacement powerhouse of the bunch is the 17-inch HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment Notebook PC. HP offers plenty of options with this bird: ATI or nVidia graphics, AMD and Intel CPU options, subwoofers, Blu ray drives, and TV tuners. The Intel dv7t will be available later this month, with a starting price of $1,229, while those with a love for AMD will have to wait until July to get their hands on the $949-starting-price-packing dv7z.

Hewlett-Packard’s newly designed 17-inch HP Pavilion dv7t Entertainment Notebook PC, based on intel centrio2 montevina  platform, is now available for purchase.

The HP Pavilion dv7t includes Intel’s Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processor with clock speeds up to 2.8GHz (depending on CPU model) and Nvidia’s 256MB GeForce 9200M GS or 512MB GeForce 9600M GT dedicated GPUs. The laptop supports up to 4GB of RAM, up to 640GB of hard drive space using two 320GB HDDs, and a DVD burner or Blu-Ray optical drive. Its 17″ widescreen display has a resolution of 1440-by-900 or 1680-by-1050 pixels, depending on customer’s choice.

The HP dv7t sports an 802.11b/g wireless LAN module or the new Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100AGN supporting 802.11n draft standard. The notebook has an optional Bluetooth module, and an Ethernet LAN port, but it does not include a built-in modem, according to a specifications sheet.

The new mobile multimedia system features Altec Lansing stereo speakers, optional web camera and fingerprint reader, HDMI and VGA outputs, four USB ports (4th shared with eSATA port), an ExpressCard slot, 5-in-1 media card reader, and Infrared receiver.

The notebook weighs approximately 7.64 pounds with an 8-cell battery.

The HP Pavilion dv7t includes a full-size keyboard with a numeric pad and the newly designed high-glossy HP Imprint 2 Mesh finish with a grid-like pattern in onyx and chrome.

The laptop runs Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit operating system and can be purchased through HP’s official website for a starting price of $1,229.

INTEL DX38BT EXTREME SERIES MOTHERBOARD

PRICE: 10,100/-

Intel DX38BT Motherboard Memory Bundle
Pulse-pounding gaming and high powered multimedia experiences require the ultimate in performance from your processor and motherboard. Intel® Desktop Board DX38BT is designed to unleash the power of Intel® Core™2 Extreme processors. With support for 1333 MHz front side bus, fast DDR3 memory and overclocking, Intel Desktop Board DX38BT delivers the gaming performance you deserve. Intel Desktop Board DX38BT supports Dolby Home Theatre and Microsoft Windows Vista Premium WHQL certified.

Intel’s new DX38BT takes over from the BadAxe 2 D975XBX2 as the king of the Extreme Series line of motherboards. As the model code suggests the DX38BT uses Intels’s own X38 chipset, which supports the latest 45nm Penryn CPUs. However, there’s a fly in the ointment. The Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers have started to release BIOS updates that add support for a 1,600MHz front side bus to their X38 models along with support for 1,600MHz DDR3 memory. The problem is that the 1,600MHz front side bus requires unofficial support that takes the X38 into the same territory as the X48 so Intel is unlikely to go down this route with the result that its latest and greatest motherboard, the DX38BT, doesn’t support its latest and greatest processor, the QX9770.

In addition to this rather fundamental problem the DX38BT doesn’t have any fancy must-have features and the passive cooling system looks positively staid when you compare it with the X38 offerings that we’ve already seen from the likes of ASUS, GIGABYTE AND MSI.

This gives you a strong hint about the capabilities of the DX38BT. After all, you only need loads of cooling if you expect the chipset will be generating excessive heat and in the case of an Intel chipset that only happens when you’re overclocking. The DX38BT isn’t a success in the overclocking department so you don’t need anything more than the two passive coolers that Intel supplies however there are a few noteworthy points about the hardware.

The Northbridge cooler is secured to a heat spreader on the underside of the motherboard with four stout screws instead of the usual feeble plastic pop pins. Second, Intel supplies a bizarre stick-on cap for the Southbridge cooler that carries a cartoon of a skull as a nod to the DX38BT’s codename of BoneTrail and the logo is also printed on the board.

You might feel that the Northbridge cooler requires the assistance of a fan but Intel hasn’t supplied a clip-on fan such as you see with many nForce 680i motherboards, oh no. What you get in the box is a tiny plastic frame that mounts on the fins of the Northbridge cooler and you have to supply the fan. Nice touch Intel! In the event you happen to have a 40mm fan that isn’t full of dust you can bet your boots that it spins at a ferocious speed and makes a terrible din.

The current BIOS versions for the two models are the same, at 1521, and the various driver versions are also identical so you can read the DX38BT review to get the low-down on the layout of the DX48BT2. The short version is that it’s very neat and tidy with support for DDR3 memory and triple PCI Express 2.0 graphics slots with CrossFire but you don’t get legacy connectors such as PS/2 ports or a connector for a floppy drive.

As the single new feature with the DX48BT2 is the 1600MHz support for memory and front side bus that’s what we’ll concentrate on, starting with the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor.

This is a quad-core that runs at 3.00GHz on a 1,333MHz front side bus. With most makes of motherboards you can set the memory speed independently of the front side bus but Intel doesn’t make life so easy. By default our OCZ PC3-1600 Titanium ran at 1,066MHz and once we fed it the extra voltage that it needed we could run it at 1,333MHz without any problem. The performance varied slightly from previous tests that we ran on the DX38BT when the memory speed had been limited to 1,066MHz but the differences were relatively tiny.

Well, the time has finally come for Intel to wade in with its DX48BT2 motherboard which in essence is a DX38BT with the addition of support for 1,600MHz DDR3 memory and that all important 1,600MHz front side bus. The obvious comment here is ‘about time too’ but things aren’t quite that simple. Over the past few months it has become clear that Intel has no plans to release any more Core 2 processors on the faster front side bus before the arrival of Nehalem in Q4. This means that the QX9770 wasn’t the start of something wonderful but is to all intents and purposes a reviewer’s special – well would you spend £1,000 on one? – so the processors that you are interested in supporting should be a 45nm Penryn Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad running on a 1,333MHz front side bus.

Placing the DX38BT and DX48BT2 side-by-side I cannot see a single difference between the two motherboards. Of course you’d expect the two models would be very similar and in many ways that’s no bad thing as the layout of the DX38BT is pretty good but there are more oddities yet to come. Take the five passive coolers on the voltage regulators as an example. Intel picks them out on the product brief as having new and improved designs but they look the spitting image of the coolers used on the DX38BT. It’s possible that Intel has changed the material that it used for the coolers but I’m prepared to go out on a limb and say that they are the same.

It’s the little things that matter to enthusisats

Intel enthusiasts around the world either love or hate the Intel D975XBX ‘Bad Axe’ motherboard, but one thing is a fact – everyone knows the board. Intel has not said if the current D975XBX revision 304 and lower boards will support quad-core processors and there might be something behind that.  Here at IDF every single quad-core processor that was seen running on Intel chipsets used the upcoming Intel D975XBX2 ‘Bad Axe 2′ motherboard. We managed to attend, get this, an overclocking/performance workshop here at IDF and were able to get an up close and personal look at the D975XBX2 motherboard.

Looking at Bad Axe 2 not too many differences can be seen from the outside, but for those looking for a challenge take a look at the image above and see if you can find any differences.  If you’d like to compare the above picture to the original take a look AT THIS THREAD IN THE FORUMS with Intel D975XBX pictures. The major component change that stood out for LR was the fact that Intel moved from a Silicon Image (SiI) 3114 chipset to the Marvell 88SE6145 controller. (The black chip on the left hand side of the board with an M on it.) With that said all the other important changes that will impact enthusiasts can be found in the BIOS and we got a chance to take it for a test drive.
